MARGUERITA Bornstein, best known by her first name, the designer and artist of Zee Point Designs, a resident of Red Hook,is inspired by the land and the history of the area. The morning sunrays ,sunset and the surrounding rawness reflect the spiritual thoughts that cross her mind,as the landscape mirrors her state of mind.At the same time, the vibrations of the reality, nurture in Marguerita the dream of finding in Red Hook artisans with skills to develop a longtime thought and concept. To create and produce Made in Red Hook the ideas and designs by Marguerita, thus involving the community to live and work together.
Red Hook originally was Roode Hoek (Hoek means "point" or "corner", and not the English hook, i.e. not something curved or bent)the name given by the Dutch ,who landed and settled here as the first Europeans in 1636 .colonists of New Amsterdam, after forced out from Brazil. It is named for the red clay soil and the point of land projecting into the East River .Today,Red Hook is part of the area known as South Brooklyn and home to about 11,ooo people.
Thus the name of the streets are after the Dutch, as the Prince Mauritz of Nassau (across the river ,near Wall Street) who disobeyed the directions given by the Dutch Royal interests ,who in turn were overpowered by the English invaders.
Marguerita.who enjoys reading and learning about History and the evolution and wanderings of mankind, looks for the traces of the past ,being the daughter of Holocaust survivors and not alien to the battle of survival.
We all need to be conscious and cultivate our garden.
This approach transpires in ZeePoint Designs and for the entirety of Marguerita's life and artwork, since her childhood.
To reach the senses and inspire Peace and harmony.
Marguerita has two sons.Stefan and Jacob.
